We connect people all over the world. As a cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany, we promote cultural exchange, education and societal discourse in an international context, and support the teaching and learning of the German language. Together with our partners, we focus on global opportunities and challenges, bringing different perspectives into a dialogue that is based in trust. We regard the ability to listen and to reflect as the key to understanding. We are bound by principles of transparency, diversity and sustainability. These principles characterise our services and our way of working.

Distinguished and Famous people from Wodonga Rural City

⚽ Archie Thompson

Archie Thompson played junior football with Twin City Wanderers in Wodonga before a professional career in Australia and Belgium. His scoring feats included thirteen goals for Australia against American Samoa in 2001 and five for Melbourne Victory in the 2007 A-League grand final. A World Cup appearance followed his international breakthrough. The local association is the junior club where his football developed, part of a border-region pathway that also produced Josh Kennedy. Those beginnings connect the city's community grounds with achievements on a much larger sporting stage.

⚽ Josh Kennedy

Josh Kennedy began junior football with Twin City Wanderers before progressing through the Australian Institute of Sport and professional clubs in Australia, Germany and Japan. His winning goal against Iraq in 2013 secured Australia's place at the 2014 World Cup. At Nagoya Grampus he became a major attacking presence, while later work with Football Victoria extended his involvement into administration and player development. The Wodonga connection is the early club pathway, a specific part of a career that eventually reached international tournaments and professional football on several continents.

🤝 Elizabeth Harvey

Elizabeth Harvey moved to Wodonga in 2012 to be closer to family and soon made volunteering a substantial part of retirement. A decade as secretary of the local Country Women's Association included support for services such as the Centre Against Violence and Travellers Aid. Council named her Citizen of the Year in 2024. Her contributions also reached the refreshment table: audiences at The Cube had opportunities to sample her lamingtons, biscuits and scones. The recognition celebrates sustained local service, friendship and the practical work that helps community organisations function.
